As the Toyota equivalent of Nissan’s Infiniti, Lexus has grown in popularity to one of the world’s most sought-after luxury vehicles. With the production of the L400 in 1989, Lexus dethroned Honda’s Acura in the U.S. for luxury.
Mazda
As one of the older auto manufacturers from Japan, Mazda found its origins in the beginning of the 20th century. It has since grown in popularity through its “zoom zoom” marketing campaign, and favored American vehicle models like the RX, the B-Series and the Miata. Mazda now operates as an important automotive producer on a global scale.

Established in Germany, Mercedes Benz is most-known in the United States for its luxury vehicles. Its models are also named according to classes: C-Class, M-Class and R-Class. It also produced the popemobile, a Mercedes Benz used by the Roman Catholic pontiff.

Although the Mitsubishi brand had a bit of a rocky start, newer models of today have managed to reposition the name as an important automotive producer. Founded in Japan, the company makes such popular vehicles as the Lancer, or the Outlander.

The Japanese automotive company Subaru is mainly known for its production of rally cars and turbocharged versions of passenger cars, such as the Legacy 2.5 GT and the Impreza. As the automobile division of transportation company Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru is popular for introducing the boxer engine layout and symmetrical all-wheel drive technology.

Although first-known for its motorcycle production, Suzuki has grown in popularity for automobiles, and managed to acquire 10th place among automakers worldwide in 2011.

With nearly 80 years in experience, the Japanese manufacturer Toyota might not be as old as some of its European counterparts, but still remains one of the most renown automobile producers in the world.
